We’re here in Helderberg with Megan, who manages operations for a local distribution warehouse. Megan, the severe southeaster storms in May caused major infrastructure damage across parts of Cape Town. How did that affect your business?
Megan
It was a very challenging few days. Some roads around the Helderberg area were heavily flooded, staff were struggling to get to work safely, and part of our warehouse roof started leaking during the storm. We were moving stock around trying to prevent water damage while incoming deliveries kept arriving.

That sounds like operational pressure from every direction at once.
Megan
Exactly. Orders were still coming in, retailers still expected dispatches, but we suddenly didn’t have enough people on the warehouse floor to keep up. Packing delays started building very quickly and the team was already exhausted from managing the storm situation itself.
