We’re here with Jerome at his Mitchells Plain superette. Jerome, earlier this year Cape Town’s taxi strike caused major disruption across the city. What did that day look like for your store?
Jerome
It was intense, Thandi. A lot of the bigger stores nearby opened late because staff couldn’t get in, so from early morning people started flooding into our shop for essentials. At the same time, two of my own cashiers were completely stranded because transport routes were disrupted. We suddenly had packed aisles, long checkout queues, and frustrated customers building up fast.
